The three-character traits that help us overcome difficulties are patience, perseverance, and assertiveness. Below are their definitions.
Patience: Quiet, steady perseverance; even-tempered care; diligence
Perseverance: Steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.
Assertiveness: Confidently aggressive or self-assured; positive
Do you see how they all relate to each other?
The truth is, you will encounter problems in life. In these instances, it is best to take a step back and analyze the situation. Sometimes we think or feel out of emotion and in that case, we make irrational decisions. The most important character trait during these times is patience. When you are patient, you are balanced. You understand and know that you may not be comfortable where you are however you know that there is better if you keep pushing through. In times of difficulty, be patient.
A part of patience is being persistent or showing perseverance. In difficult times, the best solution is to keep pushing through the pain. We may not understand why we are going through what we are going through however we “know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose,” (Romans 8:28). Pain is a trigger that there is a lesson we need to learn. Pain also alerts us that there is a blessing on the other side; as long as we continue to push through.
Assertiveness seems to be off a little when you combine them with patience however when we are under trials, our confidence can be low. The trials may have stopped us from believing in a specific ability we have, etc. The truth is, no matter how uncomfortable, continuing to be confident and positive will help shorten your trial period. Place your confidence in God and ask him what direction you should take. Leaning on Him is the only way to get through and it lets Him know that you care and honor His will. Not being assertive can also hinder you; if you let the trial consume you, you may miss out on opportunities that could bring you out. If you lack confidence, you may miss out on your next opportunity. Continue to be assertive and know that God is working a work in you. He (GOD) wants to bless you yet He needs to know that he can trust you with what He has in store for you.
Keep pushing forward and know that there are truly blessings on the other side! The best has yet to come!
